I recently saw a gorgeous typewriter at a sale. The sleek metal frame, clacky keys, the way the paper rolls through line after line… I was smitten! Alasโthe antique typewriter was far too expensive for my pockets. So instead, I came home and searched for a Perler Bead typewriter pattern. Color me surprised when I couldn’t find a single one! There was a nice cross-stitch pattern, though, and I was able to adapt it to a Perler bead pegboard. Behold my creation:

Isn’t the pink just so darn cute? I picked all muted colors to give it a more “retro” feel, but you could easily make this the sleep classic black color.
Maybe one day I’ll snag a typewriter within my budget and tap away to my heart’s content. Until then, this little Perler bead typewriter will have to do. Want to make it yourself? Here’s what you’ll need.
Materials List
Beads:
- 69 off-white or white fuse beads (I used Perler toasted marshmallow for that vintage paper look)
- 31 gray fuse beads (I used Perler gray)
- 35 light gray fuse beads (I used Perler light gray)
- 109 dark gray fuse beads (I used Perler dark gray)
- 136 fuse beads the color of your choice (I used Perler flamingo pink!)
There’s a handy Perler gray bead pack set that has all the right colors here.
Equipment:
- Large pegboard (I used a large Perler Pegboard)
- Iron (I’ve used this one for years)
- Parchment paper (the regular stuff works as well as the special Perler sheets!)
- (optional but recommended) Perler Bead Tweezers
How to Make a Perler Bead Typewriter
You can also choose to add a little “curl” to the paper to give the design some flair. And of course, you can choose any fun color for the body of the typewriter!
